Speaking as a hardcore matcha fan who will travel to Japan just to get top notch matcha powder products, I uh, went ahead and incorporated some of that matcha love into an all time American favorite - yep, chocolate chip cookies. Yes, it's green, and it might look a little funky to people who aren't used to green tea flavored shtuff, but trust me, you are not going to regret this.

WHAT YOU NEED:

(Makes ~24 cookies)

1/4 cup + 2 tbsp granulated sugar

1/4 cup + 2 tbsp packed brown sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 cup + 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp matcha powder

1 stick butter, softened

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

STEP ONE:

Preheat your oven to 375° F. Combine the softened butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in a large bowl until its looking rich and creamy. Now beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Sift in the flour, baking soda, salt and yes, the matcha powder. Combine well, then add in the chocolate chips. Semi-sweet, sweet, dark, doesn't matter, it's all up to you.

STEP TWO

Before you start going crazy on that cookie dough, cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate it overnight, preferably for 24 hours. You can do it!

STEP THREE

Scoop out the cookie dough by the spoonful and roll into small balls. Perfectly safe to do this bit with your hands, just dig in there. Then place them on the baking sheets.

STEP FOUR

Bake for about 9 to 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Then let them cool slightly, transfer to the wire racks to cool completely, and prepare to have your mind blown.
